Visiting Lecturer- Banking and Debt Finance Job description

The University of Law (ULaw) is one of the world’s largest law schools. With an impressive history dating back to 1876, we employ over 1,000 staff and have over 14,000 students studying on our undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, along with an alumni network in excess of 100,000. We were the first-ever independent institution to be granted degree awarding powers and in 2012 we gained university title. With a rich heritage and a reputation for innovation and contemporary teaching practices, we continuously focus on developing the best legal and business minds. In 2016, we opened our leading Business School, further enhancing our reputation as a full service legal, business and educational training specialist, operating from campuses throughout the UK, Berlin and Hong Kong and an Online campus.

What really sets us apart from other universities is the guiding principle that future lawyers and business leaders should learn in a realistic, professional and contemporary context, with plenty of practical interactive engagement. That’s why we keep our contact hours high and our teaching groups small.

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Visiting Lecturer with a banking and debt finance legal background to join our Sheffield campus for weekend teaching over the summer. Workshops will take place on the following days: 24 July, 7 August, and 18 September. You are not required to be available on all of these days.

Specific responsibilities will include and where required with your agreement will contain the following:

  • To teach students on the subject of banking and debt finance law
  • To assess students across a range of written and presentational skills, giving individual feedback on students’ written work and performances.
  • To mark your students’ written assignments, mock assessments, coursework assessments and examinations within stated deadlines and to the required standard.
  • To assist, from time to time with marking in other disciplines where required

This role will be based at our Sheffield campus.

Please note, CVs will not be considered and only application forms are accepted for this role.

For an informal discussion about the role please contact Clare Young, Sheffield Campus Manager on [email protected]

No agencies please.

Some posts within the University are subject to a DBS check – you will be notified of this during the application process.

Our approach

Diversity and Inclusion is central to everything we do. We are actively committed to promoting and participating in good practice in the way we attract and retain staff, as we appreciate the value and benefits of a truly diverse workforce. Aligned to this is the opportunity to join one of our three self-organised staff networks for Black, Asian and Minority staff, Disabled staff and LGBTQ+ staff.

We celebrate difference and recognise the benefits that this brings to our inclusive culture, including age, disability, gender identity and expression, religion, race, sex, sexual orientation and socio economic background. The University is committed to ensuring our workforce is reflective of our diverse student population and, therefore, we are striving to increase the representation of Black, Asian and minority ethnic (BAME) backgrounds across all roles and at all levels. All appointments will be made on merit.
